ST. LOUIS (AP) _ The St. Louis Blues, plagued by injuries to their defense, have acquired Jeff Finley and Geoff Smith from the New York Rangers in return for future considerations.

Finley, 31, played Saturday night in St. Louis against the Edmonton Oilers.

Smith, 29, will join the Worcester Ice Cats of the AHL, a Blues spokesman said Saturday. He played four games with the Rangers this season and had no points and two penalty minutes. He was 1-4-5 with 10 penalty minutes in nine games with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the AHL this season.

Finley was 2-10-12 with 22 penalty minutes in 41 games with Hartford this season. Over his 12-year career, he is 7-42-49 with 251 penalty minutes.

Blues defensemen Chris Pronger, Marc Bergevin and Rudy Poeshek are out with injuries. Pronger, who is leading the league with an average of 30.43 minutes played per game, suffered a bruised ankle after getting hit by a shot from San Jose’s Jeff Norton on Thursday. Pronger is listed day-to-day.

Bergevin has missed 14 games and is listed day-to-day with a stomach strain. Poeshek has missed seven games and is out indefinitely with a sprained ankle.
