U.S. Takes Beach Volleyball Gold
CHICAGO (AP) _ The American duo of Misty May and Holly McPeak grabbed their first international gold medal Tuesday by upsetting top-seeded Brazilians Adriana Behar and Shelda Bede at the Chicago Grand Slam beach volleyball tournament.
The second-seeded U.S. team won 15-12 in a 50-minute match. It was their first win over the Behar and Bede in their last five matchups. The winners will split the $32,000 first-place prize.
The two nations also faced off in the bronze medal match, where Brazilians Sandra Pires and Adriana Samuel defeated the United States’ Linda Hanley and Nancy Reno 15-5 in a 43 minute match.
