Tremor At Coal Mine Kills Three
WARSAW, Poland (AP) _ Three miners were killed Friday when an earth tremor caused a cave-in at a coal mine in southern Poland, the official Polish news agency PAP reported.
Three miners working in the same shaft were hospitalized with injuries, PAP said.
The tremor rumbled through the Slask coal mine in the town of Ruda Slaska in the southern Katowice industrial region. The six miners were working at a depth of about 2,640 feet.
Forty-two people have died in mine accidents so far this year, according to official reports. A methane gas explosion at the Myslowice coal mine near Katowice on Feb. 4 killed 18 miners and injured 29.
