Treasury Bond Prices Are Mixed

February 25, 2000

NEW YORK (AP) _ Treasury bond prices were mixed at midday.

The price of the Treasury’s main 30-year bond was down 14-32 point, or $4.375 per $1,000 in face value, around midday, while its yield rose to 6.16 percent from 6.13 percent late Thursday. But prices of shorter-term issues were up as much as 1/4 point.

Prices and yields move in opposite directions.

Yields on three-month Treasury bills were quoted at 5.79 percent as the discount held at 5.63 percent. Six-month yields fell to 5.98 percent as the discount lost 0.02 percentage points to 5.72 percent. One-year yields fell to 6.14 percent as the discount dropped 0.03 percentage point to 5.80 percent.

Yields are the interest bonds pay by maturity, while the discount is the interest at which they are sold.
