December 3, 2018

A passenger in a pickup truck was fatally injured Sunday evening when the vehicle collided with a semitrailer truck on Nebraska Highway 92 near Mead, the Saunders County Sheriff’s Office said.

The passenger, whose identity was being withheld until relatives could be notified, was pronounced dead at Saunders Medical Center, Sheriff Kevin Stukenholtz said.

The crash occurred about 7 p.m. about a mile and a half west of Mead. The pickup had been traveling east when it went out of control and collided with the westbound semi, Stukenholtz said.

Another pickup, also traveling east, collided with the first pickup, causing only minor damage, he said.

Alcohol was not considered to be a factor in the crash, and it was not known whether seat belts were in use, the sheriff said.
