OREGON Sandwich man improves after being struck by train
OREGON – A Sandwich man was in fair condition Monday after his pickup was struck by a train around 9 a.m. Sunday southeast of Oregon.
Jeff Pruski, 43, was southbound and stopped the 2400 block of Rocky Hollow Road just north of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway tracks when he drove around the gate arm, which was working properly, just as the westbound train approached the crossing, the Ogle County Sheriff’s Department said.
The train struck the driver’s side, pushing the truck just off the northwest side of the roadway. He was taken to MercyHealth Hospital in Rockford in critical condition, and since has improved.
The crash is under investigation.
