Phoenix secure late draw with Jets in Australia’s A-League
SYDNEY (AP) — Defensive midfielder Jason Hicks scored in the fourth minute of stoppage time to give the Wellington Phoenix a 2-2 draw with the Newcastle Jets in Australia’s A-League on Sunday.
The Phoenix fell behind early, with Roly Bonevacia and Scott Neville scoring four minutes apart to give Newcastle a 2-0 lead after 18 minutes.
But Roy Krishna scored Wellington’s first goal in the 68th minute before Hicks’ late equalizer in the New Zealand capital.
In the other match Sunday, first-place Perth Glory increased its league lead to two points after a scoreless draw with Melbourne City.
Second-placed Melbourne Victory’s match against Brisbane in the Queensland state capital was postponed because of heavy rain caused by a cyclone to the north.
