Local Boys & Girls Clubs launches literacy program
HARLINGEN — Some much-needed cash will help fund reading programs for local youths this school year.
The Boys and Girls Clubs of Harlingen has just received a $2,000 grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation to help fund literacy programs at all five sites.
“ Youth literacy grants help support teachers, schools and nonprofit organizations throughout the 44 states that Dollar General serves,” said a press release from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Harlingen.
More specifically, the grant will be used to provide help for the clubs’ Texas AIM Program that provides reading tutoring for children at various club sites.
“ We’re going to work with a total of 80 kids at each site,” said Alma Dones, director of the Main Unit.
