NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) _ A confrontation between two city police officers and a rowdy crowd led to the arrests of four Rutgers University football players.

Tresjuan Moses, 19; Edward Grimes, 20; Marcus R. Jones, 20; and Christopher M. Baker, 19, were all charged with obstruction of justice and disorderly conduct. Moses and Grimes also were charged with resisting arrest.

Patrolmen Mike Yurkovic and Christopher Goldeski came upon a crowd of about 15 people early Saturday morning and saw some minor vandalism had occurred.

After a brief chase, the players were charged and will have to appear in municipal court on Aug. 6.

Pam Blake, a university spokeswoman, said the players _ all sophomores _ would not face charges under the school’s student conduct code.
