Police use drone to catch man suspected of stealing from Janesville Shopko
A suspect in a theft from Shopko was arrested Saturday with the help of a drone and a K-9, Janesville police said.
Alexander Schenck was hiding in a garage in the 700 block of Cornelia Street in Janesville after allegedly twice eluding officers, once in a car and once on foot, police said.
On Wednesday, police identified Schenck as a suspect in the retail theft. An investigation found Schenck was driving a vehicle that fled from officers after the theft, police said.
Officers chased the vehicle but soon terminated the pursuit.
Schenck was located Saturday in a Janesville Kwik Trip, but ran out the back door. An officer injured a knee during a foot chase.
A police dog named Fred and a drone were used to locate Schenck in the Cornelia street garage. Police arrested Schenck for retail theft, resisting causing injury, burglary and criminal damage to property.
Schenck was being held in the Rock County Jail.
