SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) _ La Quanda Barkdale scored 24 points and freshman guard Coretta Brown had 19 points and six rebounds as No. 22 North Carolina beat Syracuse 81-68 on Sunday.

Syracuse shot 44 percent in the first half en route to a 38-34 halftime lead. The Orangewomen outrebounded North Carolina, 28-14, in the first 20 minutes.

North Carolina went on a 21-4 run over the last 5:36 of the first half and the first 1:22 of the second half for a 39-38 lead.

Syracuse tied the game at 39 and 46, but the Tar Heels never surrendered the lead.

Syracuse senior Beth Record scored 28 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for her second consecutive double-double.

Leaf Newman added 12 points and nine rebounds for the Orangewomen.
