Stamford man charged with possession of 56 bags of heroin
STAMFORD — Police say they intercepted a drug deal at an East Side motel this week.
Capt. Richard Conklin said officers in the Narcotics and Organized Crime squad heard a man known as “Shack” would be delivering heroin Wednesday to the Red Carpet Inn on East Main Street.
Officers conducted surveillance of the motel, which has become known for drug activity, and spotted the man matching the description driving a white Toyota Highlander.
Conklin said officers stopped the man, identified as Shakee Galberth, 42, of Noble Street, and found him in possession of 56 bags of heroin and $220 in cash.
Conklin said the bags were not stamped, a recent trend by drug dealers to try to avoid responsibility for fatal overdoses.
Galberth was charged with possession of narcotics with intent to sell and held in lieu of a $5,000 court appearance bond.
