September 5, 2018

Barry’s family will be celebrating his 90th birthday by holding an open house on Wednesday, Sept. 12 at Qual Ridge, 797 Hospital Way, Pocatello, ID 83201 between 2 and 4 p.m. We want to invite his friends to join us for this celebration. Please bring a favorite memory to share with us. Please RSVP by calling Quail Ridge at 208-233-8875.

Barry was born on Sept. 12, 1928 in Pocatello, ID to Cyril and Marie Barrett. He lived most of his life in Pocatello. In 1946 he convinced his dad to sign a permission form so he could join the United States Marine Corp when he was 17 years old. He served 5 years including reserve time. He was recalled in September of 1950 to serve during the Korean War.

Barry met Corinne Orsburn in Long Beach, CA where he was stationed. The dentist she worked for couldn’t wait for him to be “shipped out” because he kept her out dancing all night. They were married on December 26, 1951. They settled in Pocatello and raised their five children, Helen, Bob, Cyril (Larry), Ron and Rosann. They were married for 50 years. Corinne, our loving wife and mother, passed away in 2001.

Barry worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 40 years as an Engineer. He was very involved in the union and has been a member for 50 years. In 1982 he moved to Beaverton, OR as General Chairman for the United Transportation Union. He retired in 1990. Barry and Corinne sold their home and hit the highway in their new motor home traveling the United States until 2000 when they retired to Palm Desert, CA.

In 2000 Barry received his diploma from Pocatello High school at a graduation ceremony held for members of the Armed forces who quit high school to serve during WWII. It was a great honor for him.

On February 21, 2002 Barry married Grace Docimo. They stayed active by volunteering at the Community Theater and hospice. They enjoyed visiting and playing games with their group of friends, the “Eight Pack”. They lived in Palm Desert, CA until Grace passed away in July of 2017.

Barry moved back to Pocatello in April of 2018 and is living at Quail Ridge Assisted Living. His Pocatello family is happy to have him back home in Idaho. Please stop by and help up celebrate Barry’s 90th.
