Bellaire Optimist Club ready for annual Super Bowl rib, brisket sales

January 25, 2019

The Optimist Club of Bellaire is gearing up for its annual fund-raising event - Super Bowl Weekend Rib and Brisket Sales.

The club will be cooking and offering for sale whole racks of pork ribs, beef briskets, and pork butts on Saturday, Feb. 2, and Sunday, Feb. 3.

The Optimist Club is an all-volunteer, non-profit charity organization whose slogan is “Friend of Youth.”

By providing hope and positive vision, Optimists bring out the best in youth, our communities, and ourselves. They raise funds to sponsor any kind of youth activity from academic scholarships to scouting, FFA, athletic endeavors, and individual special needs. They work closely with the city of Bellaire Parks and Recreation Department, and police and fire departments.

The club will be setting-up their barbecue pits at Feld Park near the corner of Avenue B and Bissonnet Street. Members will be taking orders soon for pick up on Saturday or Sunday of that weekend. Calls will be made to former customers and signs will be placed around the city with a hotline number for ordering at 832-782-7458.

The club has been holding this event for more than 20 years. The ribs are full racks at about four pounds each, the briskets are typically 12 to 14 pounds before cooking and the pork butts are about seven pounds.

The Optimists meet at 7 p.m. Mondays at Little Woodrow’s 4235 Bellaire Blvd. Anyone interested in helping benefit youth in the area is encouraged to come.
