Shelby-Rising City Wrestling wins three medals at Lakview
The Shelby-Rising City wrestling team sent eight wrestlers to Lakeview Invitational and placed three in season-opening action on Nov. 30
Carter Fjell competed in the 126-pound bracket where he placed sixth. Fjell advanced on a bye in the first round but was defeated by David City’s Clayton Harris in the second round.
Fjell rebounded in the consolation round pinning Columbus Scotus’ Jake Heeysacker in 2:10. He then pinned Wayne’s Lance Muhs in 3:56, but fell in his final two matches.
Grady Belt placed sixth in the 138-pound weight class.
In the first round, he pinned Cody Heise of East Butler in 1:05, but was defeated in the quarterfinals.
Belt then achieved two straight victories in the second and third round of the consolation bracket before losing in the semis and forfeiting in the fifth-place match.
Michael Martinez and Connor Morrison represent S-RC in the 160-pound division.
Ceagen Watts placed fifth in the 170-pound weight class. After losing in the first round to David City’s Clayton Denker, Watts received a bye and won two straight to reach the consolation semifinals where he was defeated by Wayne’s Reid Korth.
Watts received fifth place on an injury default.
Carson Rathje and Jacob Willis both competed in the 182-pound tournament.
Rathje recorded pins against Wayne’s Dakota Spann and his fellow teammate in the tournament, Willis.
