Downtown artwork will be auctioned off
The Watertown Main Street Program and Wepco Printing will present the annual Art on Main Banner Auction Friday at the Watertown Elks Club, 117 N. First St.
The community is invited to attend this event where the 38 custom art banners that adorned Main Street lamp posts this summer will be sold at auction to raise funds for next year’s banner program and downtown beautification projects. The event will begin with a banner preview party at 5 p.m. with the auction to follow at 6 p.m. There is no entry fee to attend.
The Art on Main program is designed to add beauty and color to the downtown during the summer months while promoting Watertown’s active local arts scene. Many of the banners depict holidays, nature scenes, animals, abstract art and views of historic Watertown.
The auction will also feature a raffle with a variety of prizes donated by local merchants -- including an Amish-made solid cherry farmhouse-style coffee table from Keck Furniture, jewelry from Bradow Jewelers and The Chic Boutique, a decorative wine storage box from Ava’s-A Posh Boutique, gift certificates to local restaurants and more. There will also be a surprise $50 cash gift hidden inside one of the raffle prizes.
During the event, the names of the first-, second- and third-place winners in both the youth and adult categories will be announced. In addition, a gift will be awarded to the highest bidder of the evening.
Banners may be purchased at the auction with cash, check or charge.
Complimentary refreshments will be provided by the Main Street Program. A cash bar will also be open during the event.
These are the sponsors for this year’s event: Chickens Unlimited, the Watertown Arts Council, Watertown Tourism, Hafemeister Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bradow Jewelers, Oswald-Konz Financial Group, The Katherine Holle House Bed & Breakfast, Jones Auction Service and The Chic Boutique.
