Survey Shows Rates Of Return For Pa. Colleges’ Endowments

A survey of 800 colleges and universities, many in Pennsylvania, found that their endowments returned an average of 8.2 percent in fiscal year 2018, according to an Associated Press report. That’s down from the previous year’s average of 12.2 percent. Harvard University had the largest endowment at almost $40 billion. Endowments are built through donations that are invested, with a set amount of investment income allocated for annual expenditures.
