Former Salt Lake City official charged for misusing funds
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A former official for an inter-local government cooperative has been charged with misuse of public money almost two years after the state auditor accused her of embezzlement.
The Salt Lake Tribune reported Monday that Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill filed the charge against 54-year-old Michelle Pickering Reilly.
Reilly previously served as the chief financial officer for the Utah League of Cities and Towns.
The group is funded by cities to offer training and handle lobbying.
Charging documents say Reilly paid for about $30,000 worth of personal expenses with the league’s credit cards.
Reilly’s lawyer, Greg Skordas, says the district attorney’s office filed the charges before they had a chance to explain them.
He says Reilly had proper authorization and explanations for each expense.
