Foresters Financial Announces Winners of 2018 Competitive Scholarships in Canada and the United States
TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug 31, 2018--Foresters Financial™, an international financial services provider, is pleased to announce the 250 recipients of our 2018 Competitive Scholarships in North America.
The renewable scholarships are available for eligible Foresters members and their immediate family (i.e., spouse, children, grandchildren or those under the legal guardianship of a Foresters member) who are attending post-secondary school full-time during the 2018-2019 academic year. However, unlike most scholarships that focus just on academics, the Foresters award weighs giving back to the community as a significant component.
Our 250 winners averaged 102 volunteer hours over the past two years, many in leadership roles, all while maintaining a 3.79-grade point average/95 percent average.
Scholarship recipients will receive $2,000 for tuition, and can receive up to $8,000 over four years.
Of the winners, 64 are from Canada while 186 are in the United States. A quarter of the recipients are going into professions that help communities, like health care providers, educators, social workers and therapists.
Foresters is also pleased to announce 457 scholarship renewals for the 2018-2019 academic year. These are past scholarship winners who continue to meet the academic and volunteer requirements while pursuing a post-secondary school education.
“Going into first year university, and going away from home, it’s a scary thing to think about. And it’s also a very expensive thing to think about. There’s tuition, there’s residence meal plans, activity fees, and there’s just so much money going into my education,” said Shanithya Ramanaran, a first year health sciences student at Western University. “This Foresters scholarship will help me a lot in paying for that tuition, and it really helps to have that extra money to boost you in that post-secondary education.”
“The Foresters Competitive Scholarship is an amazing program that helps children of our eligible members pay for a quality education,” said Chris Stranahan, International Fraternal President, Foresters Financial. “We feel rewarding those who excel academically while helping others is very much a part of the Foresters Purpose, which is to enrich the lives of our members and the communities where they live.”
