Dale Lee Schlender, 70, of Columbus died Dec. 26, 2018, at Morys Haven Nursing Home in Columbus.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at Peace Lutheran Church in Columbus with The Rev. Cory Burma officiating. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Hartman Post 84 Honor Guard. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue from 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials are those of the family choice.

Dale Lee Schlender was born Novv 30, 1948, in Columbus to LeRoy and Clara (Borer) Schlender. He graduated from Columbus High School. Dale was united in marriage to Marcia Hake on Sept. 10, 1969, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, and the couple was blessed with two sons. On March 25, 1969, Dale entered the United States Army. He was a Huey crew chief and mechanic at Hunter Army Air Field in Savannah, Georgia. He was honorably discharged on March 24, 1971.

Dale worked for Evan’s Plugge, Falcon Auto, Greystone, and retired from Blazer Manufacturing. After retirement, Dale enjoyed working part time at Wunderlich’s Catering and Wal-Mart. On Aug. 29, 1992, Dale was united in marriage to Vel (Renner) Steiner at Peace Lutheran Church. With this marriage, two step-sons joined the family. Dale enjoyed bowling, fishing, golf, and model cars, and spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. Dale was a member of Peace Lutheran Church.

Dale is survived by his wife, Vel Schlender, of Columbus; son, Paul (Angie) Schlender of Lincoln; mother of Todd’s Children, Mandy Schlender, of Norfolk; grandchildren, Payton and Maisy Schlender; stepson, Steve (Erica) Steiner of Roscoe, Illinois, grandchildren, Eric and Kya Steiner, stepson, Tim (Becky) Steiner of Lincoln; grandchildren Alex and Emily Steiner; half-sister, Michelle Schlender, of Lincoln; Stepsister, Marlene (Delmar) Spitz of Columbus and Stepsister, Bonnie Martens, of Seward.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Clara Schlender; and son, Todd Schlender.
