KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) _ Thailand upset South Korea 2-1 Friday to qualify for the semifinals of the fifth annual Ghafar Cup Asian Tennis Championship.

Lee Jin-ho put South Korea ahead when he disposed of Thanakorn Srichapan in straight sets 6-1, 6-4.

But the South Koreans ran into stiff resistance in the second singles when Thailand’s Panomkorn Pladchuanil overcame Hong Jong-bong 2-6, 6-1, 6-2.

The Thais notched the winning point when Sombat Uammongkol and Vorapol Thongkamchu ousted Lee Jin-ho and Lee Min-sang 6-3, 6-3 in the doubles competition.

In other competition, Bangladesh defeated Brunei 3-0. Shovon Jamaly blanked Thomas Shim 6-0, 6-0, while Sardar Iftik1;///ri Giants a 2-1 victory over the Yakult Swallows at Korakuen Stadium in Tokyo Friday.

Right-hander Tatsuo Komatsu scattered four singles and the Dragons backed him with 11 hits, including a home run and two doubles, as Chunichi shut out the Hiroshima Toyo Carp 4-0 in Hiroshima, the Carp’s fifth loss in a row.

Komatsu now leads the league with a 13-2 record.

The loss dropped the Carp 4 1/2 games behind the Giants and two games behind the second-place Dragons.

In Yokohama, the Hanshin Tigers and the Yokohama Taiyo Whales fought to a 5-5 tie in 10 innings.

In the Pacific League, Kazuyuki Shirai drove in the winning run in a squeeze play in the eighth inning as the Nippon Ham Fighters edged the first- place Seibu Lions 3-2 at Seibu Stadium in western Tokyo.
