First call: Ex-Pirates flameout Steve Pearce is World Series MVP

November 20, 2018

Is this going to happen every year?

In the 2016 World Series, David Ross hit a home run in Game 7 for the Chicago Cubs.

In the 2017 World Series, Charlie Morton won Game 7 for the Houston Astros.

Now 2018 has given us Steve Pearce. He won the World Series MVP award for his efforts as the Boston Red Sox clinched the championship with a 5-1 win over Los Angeles in Game 5 Sunday night.

So, apparently, every October is going to give us a painful reminder of a mediocre Pittsburgh Pirate who went on to postseason glory somewhere else.

Pearce hit three homers over the last two games of the World Series and had 13 hits in the playoffs.

He capped off his immense October with these two home runs in Game 5 against the Dodgers.
