Woman critically hurt in South Harrison fire
A woman is in critical condition after being burned in a fire Wednesday morning.
Emergency crews responded to the 5600 block of South Harrison Street shortly after 9 a.m. Upon arrival, crews found a home with flames visible and a victim suffering burns, said Adam O’Connor, Fort Wayne Fire Department public information officer.
In an interview with The Journal Gazette, a neighbor said the victim and her ex-husband “beat on” the neighbor’s door asking for help.
“She was burnt from her chest to her shoulders,” the neighbor said. “My daughter brought her inside the house and we called 911. (The ex-husband) was by the sidewalk and I waited with him until the fire department and the police came.”
O’Connor told reporters at the scene that authorities have a person of interest under investigation in the case.
