FORT WORTH, Texas _ TCU junior point guard Jaylen Fisher will miss the rest of this season because of ongoing issues with his surgically repaired right knee, and won’t return to the program next season. FORT WORTH, Texas _ TCU walk-on Owen Aschieris was in a team meeting this week when a university police officer suddenly interrupted and asked to speak to him. The officer had a piece of paper in his hand and asked the sophomore guard to confirm it was his name listed on the sheet. Aschieris wasn’t in trouble, though. That sheet was a scholarship award for the spring semester for the 6-foot-1, 165-pound guard , who a year ago was on the scout team for practices with the TCU women. By Stephen Hawkins. AUSTIN, Texas _ A Texas school spokesman says backup quarterback Shane Buechele (boo-SHEL’) has put his name in the NCAA transfer database and freshman Cameron Rising has informed the team he will transfer. Buechele was the full-time starter in 2016 when he set freshman school passing records, but was splitting time with Sam Ehlinger by 2017. Ehlinger took over the starter’s role in 2018 and had a breakout season with 3,292 passing yards and 16 rushing touchdowns. SENT: 150 words.




EAST LANSING, Mich. _ Michigan State University faculty members are supporting the appointment of a former dean to lead the university following the resignation of John Engler. The former Michigan governor was pushed to step down as interim president after making controversial comments about some victims of former sports doctor and convicted sex abuser Larry Nassar. Some victims were Olympians who trained in Texas. Engler said Wednesday that he’d resign next week, but the Board of Trustees voted Thursday to make the resignation immediate.
