The American Red Cross of the Illinois River Valley recently announced the appointment of Glenn M. Nixon to the organization’s board of directors.
Nixon is a real estate agent with a background in law enforcement, retiring as senior patrol sergeant after 25 years of service. He is currently an Illinois licensed Real Estate Broker at Real Living Speckman Realty in Bourbonnais.
He began working as a private contractor teaching for the military, federal law enforcement and police agencies. He was assigned to a multi-regional narcotics interdiction task force and was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2004. Nixon also serves as vice chair on the Riverside Medical Center Foundation Board and is currently the board chairman of the Kankakee County Training Center for the Developmentally Disabled (KCTC).
Nixon helped build the Bourbonnais community’s School Resource Officer Program and the Kankakee County Teen Court Program serving as the vice president. He served as an officer of the Kankakee County Juvenile Officer’s Association and also served on the Illinois School Resource Officer’s Association Board. He was elected to the Kankakee County Board serving on the economic alliance, planning and zoning and criminal justice committees.
“Glenn’s varied experiences and local roots will add incredible insight to the board,” said J.D. Ross, chair of the American Red Cross of the Illinois River Valley board. “We are lucky to welcome him to our leadership team.”
The volunteer board includes more than 10 civic and corporate leaders from a range of professional backgrounds for the region that serves 1.1 million people in six counties in northern Illinois. The board is led by Ross of Joliet Junior College (retired).
