Fort Wayne native’s TBT team into finals
Matt Mitchell’s team in The Basketball Tournament is one victory away from the $2-million payday.
Mitchell, a Blackhawk Christian graduate and general manager of Eberlein Drive, watched as his team defeated Team Fredette 80-76 in a nationally televised semifinal game from Baltimore on Friday night.
Eberlein Drive, a No. 7 seed that has been in all five years of the TBT, took down the No. 2-seeded Jimmer Fredette-led team that had knocked out the Fort Wayne Champs, a team made up mostly of former Mad Ants players, earlier in the single-elimination tournament.
Jimmer Fredette had a chance to tie it at 78 with but missed a layup and James Michael McAdoo then dunked it to cement the victory.
In the other semifinal game, Overseas Elite defeated the Golden Eagles 85-60. The Overseas Elite, a No. 1 seed, are looking for their fourth straight TBT title. They got 38 points from Kyle Fogg in defeating the team of Marquette Alumni.
The TBT championship game will be Friday at 9 p.m. in Baltimore on ESPN.
