Scranton Man Charged With Stealing Van, Hitting House
SCRANTON — A city man faces charges after police said he stole a van and crashed it into a home early Thursday morning.
Damion Fritz, 22, 913 Albright Ave., Scranton, is charged with theft by unlawful taking and related charges after city police responded to the 100 block of South Sherman Avenue for a van, which belonged to the Glider Restaurant, that had hit a building and a parked vehicle.
The driver, who witnesses said wore a bright orange coat, fled the scene. The van had been parked in front of the restaurant when it closed Wednesday.
Officers found Fritz, who wore such a coat, on the 2000 block of Lafayette Street. Fritz had a single vehicle key in his pocket. When questioned, Fritz said he found the van with keys in it and took it, police said.
Fritz is held in Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 1.
