O’Hara hosting public hearing on zoning change

October 13, 2018

O’Hara council on Tuesday will have a public hearing regarding a proposed amendment to the township’s zoning map.

The meeting will be at 7 p.m. in the municipal building, 325 Fox Chapel Road. A regular council meeting follows.

Residents can voice opinions on a new moderate density residential district along the Saxonburg Boulevard corridor.

Township Manager Julie Jakubec said officials anticipate a spate of new homes in the neighborhood following a project to install sanitary sewers where residents now rely on septic systems.

A $4 million sewer line project is planned to provide reliable sewerage to neighborhoods from the Shaler line to the Indiana Township line, and some homes along Berryhill and Calmwood roads.

Township staff recommended the area be rezoned as a tool to limit the amount of paved area created by development, thwarting water runoff.

Jakubec said only single-family homes will be permitted in the new zone.

In other news, the township’s fall leaf collection will run Oct. 15-Dec. 1. The eastern and western portions of the township have been divided into zones to make it easier for the public works department to follow a set route and notify residents where collection is taking place.

The township’s website is updated daily.

Leaves should be set at the curb, with no other debris mixed in.
