Bush Autographs Letter For 105-Year-Old Twins

January 5, 1989

DENTON, N.C. (AP) _ Allie Hill and Maggie Lambeth, the world’s oldest living twins who were born when Chester A. Arthur was president, will receive a 105th birthday greeting from President-elect Bush.

Bush and the 45 Republicans in the U.S. Senate signed a birthday letter to Mrs. Hill and Mrs. Lambeth, who are residents of Mountain Vista Health Park in Denton. The signatures were collected Wednesday by Sen. Jesse Helms, R-N.C.

The women, who turn 105 on Jan. 13, are staunch Republicans, according to Velez Buie, activities director at the home.

″When they were 103, somebody asked Maggie who was the last president they voted for and she said she didn’t know but it was a Republican,″ Ms. Buie said. She said both women need wheelchairs to get around and that neither could talk on the phone.

Helms wrote the letter that Bush and the senators autographed. ″Without question, you are the oldest twins who are members of any political party,″ he wrote.

The Guinness Book of World Records recognizes the sisters as the world’s oldest living twins.
