Locals opening their homes

September 17, 2018

With about 5,000 residents evacuated and displaced by the fires, the Red Cross opened an emergency shelter inside Salem Hills High School.

Many RVs, campers and trailers parked in the school’s parking lot, but the shelter didn’t have any local residents sleeping inside the school.

Throughout social media, local residents offered their homes and beds to evacuees, as well as shelter for animals and livestock that had to be moved from the evacuation area.
