6.4-magnitude quake rattles Nicaragua

MANAGUA, Nicaragua (AP) — A 6.4-magnitude earthquake has rattled the Pacific coast of Nicaragua, but there are no immediate reports of injuries or damages.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake occurred at about 3:37 local time (9:37 GMT), about 14 miles (23 kilometers) offshore from the town of Jiquilillo on the Pacific coast.

The area is near the border with Honduras.

Nicaragua’s Civil Defense office said there were no immediate reports of injuries or serious damage from Sunday’s quake. The region is sparsely populated.
