Worcester airport to announce new airline service next week
WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — The chairman of the Massachusetts Port Authority board says a third passenger airline is coming to Worcester Regional Airport.
Worcester County Sheriff Lewis Evangelidis said Wednesday that a “significant national airline” would soon be added to the roster of flights offered at the airport. The Telegram & Gazette reports that Evangelidis says can’t reveal the destination of the airline or when the airline will begin service.
A ceremony to announce the airline is planned for Tuesday. Massport CEO Thomas Glynn, Democratic U.S. Rep. Jim McGovern and Republican Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito will be in attendance.
American Airlines Inc. and Massport, which owns and operates the airport, announced this spring that the airport would host daily flights to and from Philadelphia beginning in October.
