Trucker Gets Prison in Death of 4-Year-Old Boy
MEDIA, Pa. (AP) _ The driver of a gravel truck was sentenced to prison for the death of a 4- year-old boy who died when the truck overturned its load onto a car.
Charles Thomas Forbes, 42, of Newark, Del., was sentenced Wednesday to two to five years for the death of Matthew Serafino, also of Newark. Forbes had pleaded guilty Aug. 20 to vehicular homicide.
Forbes also pleaded guilty to charges that he conspired with the truck’s owner, Milton L. Roy, to continue operating the vehicle although its condition violated provisions of the state Motor Carriers Code.
Forbes said he lost control of the truck, carrying 79,000 pounds of stone and gravel, while descending a hill in Delaware County.
The truck hit two cars before flipping over and spilling its cargo onto the car carrying Karen Serafino, 27, her 18-month-old daughter, Stephanie, and Matthew.
