Rockets 120, Spurs 109
HOUSTON (AP) _ Akeem Olajuwon scored 14 of his 35 points in the pivotal fourth quarter and added 17 rebounds and eight blocked shots Sunday night, leading the Houston Rockets to a 120-109 victory over the San Antonio Spurs.
It was the seventh straight loss for San Antonio, which is 1-9 on the road this season.
Houston led only 93-90 midway through the fourth quarter, but the Rockets outscored the Spurs 9-5, with Olajuwon scoring seven points, for a 102-95 advantage with 5:14 left.
The Rockets led 108-99 with 3:12 left after a pair of free throws by Olajuwon, and the Spurs were never closer than seven again.
Mike Woodson had 19 points and Sleepy Floyd 16 points and 10 assists for Houston.
Greg Anderson led the Spurs with 29 points and 10 rebounds, followed by Willie Anderson with 18 points and Alvin Robertson with 16.
Houston took a 13-6 lead with 7:04 left in the first quarter. The Spurs got within two after five consecutive points by David Greenwood, but the Rockets went on an 11-4 run to lead 31-22 at the end of the first period.
Early in the second quarter, the Rockets increased their lead to 42-26 with an 11-2 run. But the Spurs scored eight straight, six by Robertson, to cut the deficit to 46-40 with 5:08 left in the half, then outscored the Rockets 8-2 in the final 2:30 to narrow the Houston lead to 55-52 at halftime.
Houston opened the third quarter by scoring eight straight to lead 63-52. The Rockets increased the margin to 75-61 with 5:06 left in the third quarter. But the Spurs outscored Houston 17-6 to cut the deficit to 81-78 going into the fourth quarter.
