Huntington jumps to early lead, pounds Big Reds 12-1 on the diamond
PARKERSBURG — Huntington pounded Parkersburg pitchers for 15 hits, including two doubles and triple, to rout the Big Reds 12-1 Saturday for the Highlanders’ first road win of the year.
Huntington scored five runs in the first inning while its pitchers limited Parkersburg to just one run in earning its first Mountain State Athletic Conference win of the season.
The Highlanders (2-0, 1-0 MSAC) got two hits each from Bryce Carter, Jordan Walker, Evan Juniper, Trey Straub and Ethan Proctor.
Juniper and Nolan Cyrus combined to pitch all seven innings of the game while limiting the Big Reds to four hits.
Juniper pitched 2 2/3 innings while allowing just one hit and striking out five.
Huntington will return to action Monday at Riverside with the first pitch set for 6 p.m.
