BILOXI, Miss. (AP) — A dead dolphin has washed ashore in Mississippi.

WXXV-TV reports the Institute for Marine Mammals Studies responded after the dolphin was found badly decomposed Tuesday evening on a Biloxi beach. IMMS director Dr. Moby Solangi says the animal's condition made them unable to perform a necropsy, however they were able to determine it was young.

Solangi says the dolphin is the 43rd that has been found dead this year and believes flooding from Tropical Storm Cindy is contributing to their deaths.

Solangi believes the dolphin's death was a result of "the dead zone," which is fresh water that comes in and brings industrial and agricultural wastes. He says the zone is being created and is largest right now this year.
