Prep basketball roundup: Straub’s double-double lifts Knights over Warriors

BELLE, W.Va. - Tyler Straub scored 15 points and pulled down 14 rebounds to lead Class AAA No. 9 Cabell Midland (16-6) to an 87-60 victory over Riverside (2-19) Thursday night in boys high school basketball.

Chandler Schmidt scored 23.

Ty Sturm scored 13 and handed out seven assists. Jake Edwards grabbed 11 rebounds to go with six points.

Janarte Elzy led Riverside with 13 points. Brian Massey scored 12 and Tre Gibson 11.

BOYD COUNTY 55, ASHLAND 53: Blake Stewart hit a jumper from the lane with with 7 seconds remaining in overtime to give the Lions a victory over the Tomcats in the 64th District championship game. The district title was Boyd County’s sixth in a row.

SOUTH GALLIA 56, MILLER 55: Braxton Hardy scored from the lane with 7 seconds left to give the seventh-seeded Rebels a victory over the 10th-seeded Falcons (1-22) in a Division IV, Meigs sectional tournament semifinal in Pomeroy, Ohio. South Gallia advanced to the title game vs. No. 2 seed Trimble at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Meigs High School.

JOHNSON CENTRAL 57, MAGOFFIN COUNTY 35: Morgan Hopson scored 18 and Ashlee Belcher 16 as the Golden Eagles (15-14) defeated the Hornets (7-23) in the Kentucky 57th District championship game in Paintsville.

Morgan Damron came off the bench to lead Magoffin County with 11 points.
