Tunisians mark 3 years since dictator’s overthrow
TUNIS, Tunisia (AP) — Tunisians have marked the third anniversary of the overthrow of their dictator in 2011, which kicked off pro-democracy demonstrations around the region.
Thousands marched along the main avenue in downtown Tunis on Tuesday celebrating the revolution while decrying social and economic problems that have plagued the country.
Tunisia’s elected assembly is on the verge of passing a new constitution, a major step in completing the democratic transition, which has remained on track despite the country’s setbacks.
The other Arab countries that deposed their leaders during the Arab Spring have been beset by continued instability and, in the case of Egypt, a military coup.
