LANCASTER -- The third annual Veterans’ Candy Drive, sponsored by Lancaster Veterans Service Officer Richard Voutour and organized by the Malek family of Lancaster, was another sweet success.

Six area fire departments, including Lancaster, Sterling, West Boylston, Bolton, Clinton, and Stow, and the Beaman Library in West Boylston participated in the collection effort.

The top overall collector was Randall Library with 81 pounds.

The top fire station was Sterling with 46.4 pounds. Together, all were able to collect a total of 277 pounds of candy.

The candy was distributed to the New England Center and Home for Veterans in Boston, Veteran’s Inc in Worcester, Veteran’s Homestead in Leominster, and many boxes shipped to our deployed soldiers overseas. Dietetic candy was supplied along side traditional candy.
