Officers suffers minor injury when struck by passing vehicle
LEICESTER, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts police officer working a detail suffered a minor injury when he was grazed by a vehicle driven by a woman who was later charged with drunken driving.
Leicester police say Officer Charles Laperle was one of several officers working a road paving detail on Route 9 at about 8:45 p.m. Thursday when he was struck by a passing SUV’s side mirror.
The driver did not stop at the scene and attempts by police and highway workers to stop the vehicle were unsuccessful. Leicester police alerted other area departments and the woman was located in Worcester.
The Telegram & Gazette reports she was charged with drunken driving and could face additional charges.
Laperle was treated for minor injuries and has since returned to duty.
