WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (AP) — The winners of the 33rd New York Wine Classic have been announced, with the annual event’s most esteemed award going to a white wine produced by a Finger Lakes winery.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the winners Wednesday, the final day of the three-day event held at the Watkins Glen Harbor Hotel on the southern end of Seneca Lake.
The Governor’s Cup, the top award given at the Classic, went to a 2017 Gewürztraminer from Keuka Spring Vineyards in Penn Yan in Yates County.
Known as the Oscars of New York wine, the Classic is open to the more than 440 wineries across New York state.
The Dr. Konstantin Frank Winery from Hammondsport in Steuben County was named Winery of the Year.
Finger Lake Cider House’s Pioneer Pippin won the Governor’s Cider Cup.
