Round 2 suspended at Bellerive...Cubs sin...Dodgers closer on DL...Birds move Jones to right
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Gary Woodland was the leader at 10 under when the second round of the PGA Championship was suspended at Bellerive Country Club, where a band of strong storms brought heavy rains. Woodland is one shot better than Kevin Kisner after both completed morning rounds without any issue. Nobody in the afternoon wave Friday finished their second round, which means big names such as Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas will have to resume play at 7 a.m. Saturday.
CHICAGO (AP) — Anthony Rizzo drew a bases-loaded walk in the seventh inning to break a tie in the Chicago Cubs’ 3-2 win over Washington this afternoon. Nationals pitcher Jeremy Hellickson was working on a no-hitter until Jason Heyward tied the game with a two-run single in the sixth. Chicago grabbed a 3-2 lead in the seventh after Cubs manager Joe Maddon was ejected for arguing an interference call against Willson Contreras on the bases.
DENVER (AP) — Los Angeles Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen has been placed on the 10-day disabled list because of an irregular heartbeat. Jansen didn’t feel right before Thursday’s game against Colorado and was taken to a Denver hospital for tests. The 30-year-old right-hander dealt with an irregular heartbeat in 2011 and underwent a procedure on his heart in October 2012 to return it to normal rhythm.
BALTIMORE (AP) — The Baltimore Orioles have moved longtime center fielder Adam Jones to right field to make room for rookie Cedric Mullins. Manager Buck Showalter called Jones “one of the great center fielders in Oriole history,” but said the 12-year veteran has known for a while that the switch was coming. The 23-year-old Mullins had his contract selected from Triple-A Norfolk and was immediately inserted into the starting lineup against Boston.
BROOKLYN, Mich. (AP) — Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch swept the front row in qualifying at Michigan International Speedway. Hamlin went 202.794 mph in Friday’s session to win a pole for the second consecutive week as he seeks his first Cup win of the season. Kevin Harvick was third in qualifying.
