STOWE, Vt. (AP) — Vermont State Police say they are investigating a pair of weekend fires that damaged a Stowe library and destroyed a building housing five businesses.

According to police, firefighters were summoned to the Stowe Free Library late Saturday when the building’s fire alarm went off. Police say the first firefighter on the scene was quickly able to extinguish the blaze with a fire extinguisher.

Police say a nearby building in Stowe also caught fire and sustained significant fire and water damage. Police say it is considered a total loss.

Investigators say both fires started on the exterior of buildings, which are located less than a mile apart. Police and fire investigators are still investigating.
