Saudi man charged with extorting Massachusetts teen
SALEM, Mass. (AP) — A Saudi Arabian man attending college in the United States has been held without bail after pleading not guilty to trying to blackmail a teenage girl from Massachusetts.
Abdulrahim Altalhi was arraigned Wednesday in Salem Superior Court on charges of extortion, child enticement, dissemination of child pornography and attempting to induce a child into prostitution.
Prosecutors say the 20-year-old Altalhi met the 15-year-old Danvers girl on a messaging application, posing as a teenage girl to befriend her. Authorities say his conversations soon turned sinister, with Altalhi demanding explicit photos and a meeting for a sex act, threatening to expose the girl to friends and family if she did not comply.
Altalhi’s lawyer sought $35,000 bail, saying the online conversations were no more than role playing and fantasy with a “hypersexualized” girl.
