Metis Celebrates One Year of Teaching Seattle’s Next Generation of Data Scientists
SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct 1, 2018--One year into graduating its first Seattle bootcamp cohort, data science training provider Metis is making a strong mark in the second strongest tech market in North America.Since September 2017, Metis has trained and graduated five cohorts of students, totaling 50 data scientists who represent the next generation of Seattle data science talent. Metis alumni now work at many of Seattle’s leading companies and organizations, including Microsoft, Starbucks, Amazon, Uncountable, InfoSys, The Gates Foundation, Revel Consulting, Liberty Mutual, Warwick, Capgemini, Avanade, Zulily, Procogia, Tata Consulting, Soothsayer Analytics, Indeed, Risen Solutions Staffing (Lyft), Radiant.earth, Fiveby Solutions Inc., 10,000 ft, Planet Labs, and Allstate. As Metis continues to expand in the Emerald City, it moved into a new location downtown (51 University St., Suite 300, Seattle, WA 98104) when its sixth bootcamp cohort began classes.
A new Seattle campus celebration with food and drinks will be held Thursday, October 4, 2018 from 6 to 8:30 PM. If you’d like to attend the event, at which recent Metis Data Science Bootcamp graduates will present their final passion projects and you can meet Metis alumni, staff, and instructors, RSVP here.
Notably, in a male-dominated industry, over 42% of Metis’s newly minted data scientists are women, helping make gains for women in a Seattle tech workforce which is only 20.6% female.
“Metis not only helped me build a strong foundation of practical skills that enable me to learn and grow in my current role, but also supported me in understanding how to navigate the job search and demonstrate my abilities as a data scientist,” said Emily Geller, a Metis bootcamp grad now working as a Decision Scientist on the Applied Analytics team at a global brand headquartered in Seattle. “I made great friendships with the other students at Metis, and they have become a network of like-minded data scientists that will continue to grow as data science evolves as an industry.”
As Seattle companies face one of the biggest shortages of data scientists in the U.S., the Emerald City has become one of the best jobs markets for data scientists. Data scientist has been ranked the “#1 Job in America” for three years running, according to careers website Glassdoor.
“We’re excited to welcome a new class of future data scientists to our new and improved learning space,” said Roberto Reif, Senior Data Scientist at Metis. “It’s our next big step towards educating tomorrow’s tech workforce in the Seattle area.”
Metis accelerates the careers of data scientists with full-time immersive bootcamps, part-time professional development courses, online training, and corporate programs. Its courses are taught by expert data science practitioners, integrating project-based learning with real data sets.
As part of its commitment to foster an equal and representative data science community, women, members of underrepresented demographic groups, members of the LGBTQ community, and/or veterans or members of the U.S. military are eligible to receive a $3,000 scholarship toward their Metis Data Science Bootcamp tuition.
