Probe finds bullying at school where racist flyers posted

May 4, 2019

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Investigators say administrators did not always follow district policy when addressing bullying and harassment at a Cheyenne junior high school where racist and anti-gay flyers were posted.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reported Friday the Title IX investigation found that minority, disabled and LGBTQ students at McCormick Junior High were bullied over time. District officials plan to share “limited” details about the investigation at a board meeting Monday.

The school has been the focus of community attention since March 26, when the flyers were handed out and put up in the hallway by students. The principal, who has since been replaced, was criticized for his response and for what some said was a longtime culture of bullying at the school.
