I-81 Crash Sends 3 To Hospital
HANOVER TWP. — A wrong-way driver plowed head-on into another motorist, causing a three-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon on Interstate 81 northbound, authorities said.
State police at Wyoming say Earl Brewer, 74, of McAlisterville in Juniata County, was driving his Dodge Avenger in the opposite direction on the interstate for several miles prior to the crash at mile marker 163.5 around 5:20 p.m.
Police say Brewer smashed head-on into a Infinity G37X driven by Luis Rosa, 23, of Wilkes-Barre. A child in a rear-facing car seat was also in the vehicle.
Rosa and the child, no age given, were transported to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Twp.
Brewer was also taken to the hospital for undisclosed injuries.
Police said a third driver, Angela Morris, 36, of Bloomsburg, was involved in the crash when she swerved her Totota Rav4 to miss Brewer’s oncoming vehicle, police said. Morris was not injured.
All drivers were wearing seat belts, police said.
It was not immediately clear where and how the wrong-way driver entered the interstate, but police believe he was on the highway for several miles.
Traffic backed up for miles as the highway was reduced to one-lane until the vehicles and crash debris could be removed.
Police say Brewer will be cited for multiple traffic violations.
