5-year-old boy killed in treadmill accident at Whitehall home
A 5-year-old boy was killed Sunday in a treadmill accident at his South Hills home, officials said.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner on Monday ruled the death of Ashim Gurung of Whitehall Township to be an accident.
The official manner of death was compression of the neck.
County police detectives made clear they have not and do not plan to file any criminal charges, county spokeswoman Amie Downs said.
“They don’t suspect any foul play,” Downs said. “This was just a horrible accident.”
Initial reports indicate that Ashim Gurung was playing near a treadmill when he dropped a toy or other object, and got caught in the moving treadmill while trying to retrieve it.
The incident happened shortly before 11 a.m. Sunday.
Gurung was pronounced dead at his home on Glowood Drive at 11:10 a.m.
