DeKalb City Council to hear proposal for drive-thru liquor store

September 10, 2018

DeKALB – Another liquor store is being proposed on West Lincoln Highway, although this one would provide a unique service – a drive-thru.

Jeff Dobie of Haymaker Enterprises, which operates Fatty’s Pub and Grille, 1312 W. Lincoln Highway, wants to build a new commercial building on the street across from Fatty’s, at

1221 W. Lincoln Highway.

It would have storage area for Fatty’s and also could serve a future tenant, according to the agenda for Monday night’s City Council meeting.

Also proposed for the building is a video gambling establishment and a package liquor store.

In order for the store to have a drive-thru, city staff have prepared an ordinance that, if adopted, will allow only packaged, sealed alcohol to be sold through the drive-thru.

According to the agenda, staff are supportive of the request, but they also are being deliberate to make sure this isn’t the first in an ill-fated game of dominoes.

“Staff would encourage the council to be very diligent in considering and reviewing any further or future requests for drive-thru approvals,” the agenda reads.

The council will meet at 6 p.m. Monday in the council chambers on the second floor of the Municipal Building, 200 S. Fourth St.
