Game to give Florence residents a preview of new arena football team

August 25, 2018

FLORENCE, S.C. – Florence residents will get a preview of the city’s new arena football team – the Carolina Havoc – at 7 p.m. Saturday in the form of the American Arena League (AAL) 2018 All-Star Classic.

The Florence Center will host the all-star game, which will feature all-league players who were selected by AAL owners and coaches from the 2018 season. Among the players are 35 with NFL ties, including a former Pro Bowl selection (ex-Carolina Panther and Dallas Cowboy Greg Hardy) and a member of the Super Bowl XLVI champion New York Giants (Greg Jones).

The game will be a preview of what is to come next spring when the Carolina Havoc, previously the Atlanta Havoc, take the field as the first arena football team to play in the Florence Center since the Florence Phantoms (2006-09).

The AAL All-Stars will be split into two squads: the Stars and Stripes.

Tony Zefiretto, CEO of the AAL, said he was excited to announce that the game would be broadcasted live on ESPN3 and ESPN+ as part of a partnership between the league and Go Live Sports Cast.

“The AAL has received interest from cities and new potential owners across the U.S.,” Zefiretto said. “Having our AAL All-Star game recognized by an international audience on ESPN 3 and ESPN+ allows us to continue to receive national recognition.”

Tickets for the event are $18 for the lower bowl and $13 for the upper bowl. They can be purchased through the Florence Center.

As part of the weekend festivities, the Carolina Havoc will host a youth football camp beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday. Each camper will receive a free ticket to the game Saturday evening as well as a Carolina Havoc T-shirt.
